A cowboy steers cattle through the western edge of Lake Kissimmee during the Great Florida Cattle Drive of 2006. Thanks to ranching most of the land surrounding Lake Kissimmee has remained in its natural state, important because these waters are the headwaters to the Everglades. Much of the lakefront is now protected by conservation easement.
