At Archbold Biological Station, the Orianne Society conducts research on landscape movements of the endangered Eastern Indigo Snake. Radio transmitters surgically embedded beneath the skin have shown biologists that the snakes in the Lake Wales Ridge study area utilize home ranges up to 530 acres (and up to 1000 acres in other areas).
